Group all assignments inside one company under a single job entry. Use your most senior or permanent job title as the header, and then describe each rotation, secondment, or transfer as a bullet point or sub-bullet within that role. This prevents your resume from looking fragmented or as though you job-hopped.
ATS systems parse resumes by timeline. If you list three separate entries for a two-year period — for example, "Associate, January 2024 – June 2024" then "Project Lead, July 2024 – December 2024" — the overlap or gaps confuse the parser and reduce your chances of matching a job description that spans the whole period. A single, continuous entry avoids that risk.
If your secondment was to a completely different company (for example, a six-month placement at a client site), treat it as a separate entry on your resume. Place it after your permanent role with the note “seconded to [Company Name].” If the secondment was short (under three months) and the work was closely related to your main role, you can still fold it into the parent entry as a bullet point. For rotations that moved you between departments but you remained employed by the same organisation, keep the single-role approach.
Before (fragmented)
Analyst, Pricing Team | ABC Corp | Jan 2024 – Jun 2024
- Built pricing models for the EMEA market
Senior Analyst, Supply Chain | ABC Corp | Jul 2024 – Dec 2024
- Led a cost-reduction project across three warehouses
After (one continuous role)
Senior Analyst | ABC Corp | Jan 2024 – Dec 2024
- Promoted from Pricing to Supply Chain team halfway through the year
- Built pricing models for the EMEA market (Pricing rotation, Jan–Jun 2024)
- Led a cost-reduction project across three warehouses (Supply Chain rotation, Jul–Dec 2024)
The second version shows advancement and breadth without raising questions about stability.
If the transfer moved you to a role with a lower title but equivalent responsibility, keep the higher title as the header and explain the context in a bullet. For example: "Moved to the regional implementation team (title adjusted to market norms) to lead a new product rollout." Do not list two separate job entries unless the company considers them distinct positions with different reporting lines.
Secondment (same company, different department)
- Selected for a 6-month secondment to the M&A team to support due diligence on two acquisitions
Rotation programme (formal, multiple assignments)
- Completed a 12-month leadership rotation across Sales, Marketing, and Product divisions
- Owned the quarterly forecasting process during the Sales rotation
Internal transfer (different location or function, same job level)
- Transferred from the London office to the Singapore hub to launch the APAC partnership programme
- Maintained original role title and seniority throughout the move
ATS parsers read chronological order. If you list the same company twice with overlapping dates, some systems will assume you worked two jobs at once and flag the resume as questionable. Always merge overlapping entries into one when they fall within the same employer and time period.
Another fact: ATS systems preserve the first line of each entry as the job title. If you write "Senior Analyst / Pricing Analyst / Supply Chain Analyst" in the first line, many parsers will read only "Senior Analyst" and ignore the rest. Put the most senior title first, and save the other titles for bullet points.
