When you have worked four different roles at the same company, the standard resume structure — listing each job separately with the company name repeated — creates clutter and wastes precious space. A recruiter scanning your resume needs to see quickly that you grew within one organization, not that you changed employers four times. By grouping all roles under one company header, you signal loyalty, progression, and depth — all strong hiring signals.
If you list each role as a standalone entry, the page becomes repetitive: same company name four times, same location four times, same line about the company mission. That repetition dilutes the impact of your achievements. Worse, it can make a recruiter think you job-hopped if they skim the company column.
Use the company name as a single H2-level heading (bold, left-aligned). Below it, list each role in reverse chronological order. Each sub-role should include:
Separate each sub-role with a blank line or a thin horizontal rule — do not use a new company section each time.
Here is the most common mistake — four separate entries:
Before (weak structure)
Marketing Coordinator | Company X | Jan 2019 – Jun 2020
Managed email campaigns and tracked open rates.
Marketing Manager | Company X | Jul 2020 – Dec 2021
Led team of three coordinators. Increased email click-through rate by 12%
Senior Marketing Manager | Company X | Jan 2022 – Mar 2023
Oversaw department budget of $500K. Launched three product campaigns.
Director of Marketing | Company X | Apr 2023 – Present
Set annual marketing strategy. Grew organic traffic by 40% year-over-year.
After (strong structure)
Company X
Director of Marketing (Apr 2023 – Present)
– Set annual marketing strategy aligning product launches with customer lifecycle.
– Grew organic traffic by 40% year-over-year through SEO-led content initiatives.
– Reduced customer acquisition cost by 18% by shifting spend to high-conversion channels.
Senior Marketing Manager (Jan 2022 – Mar 2023)
– Managed a $500K department budget and prioritized investments across paid, owned, and earned media.
– Led cross-functional launch campaigns for three products, generating $2.1M in pipeline.
Marketing Manager (Jul 2020 – Dec 2021)
– Supervised a team of three coordinators and increased email click-through rate by 12%.
– Implemented A/B testing process that improved landing page conversion by 9%.
Marketing Coordinator (Jan 2019 – Jun 2020)
– Built and analyzed email nurture sequences that supported a 15% lift in qualified leads.
Notice how the combined entry shows career progression in one glance — no repetition of company name, no wasted lines.
If a role lasted less than 12 months, group its bullet points under the next longer role, or merge it into an umbrella title like "Various Marketing Roles" with the overall date range. For example:
Marketing Team (Jan 2019 – Present) — role titles varied: Coordinator, Manager, Senior Manager, Director.
Then list each title on one line with its key achievement, rather than a full sub-section. This avoids highlighting a short tenure that might raise questions.
If you moved sideways — say from Sales Analyst to Customer Success Manager at the same level — structure it exactly the same way. The combined entry shows you are versatile and trusted by the same employer to handle different functions. Keep each lateral role to 2-3 bullets to keep the section balanced.
Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) parse resumes by looking for clearly separated sections. A single company header with multiple sub-roles is fully compatible with ATS if you:
Most modern ATS will parse each sub-role as a separate job entry as long as the job title and dates are on the same line or clearly adjacent. If you want extra safety, add a line beneath each sub-role that says "Same Employer" — but that is usually unnecessary.
If your four roles span a merger, acquisition, or name change, list the most recent company name as the header, and include a brief note: "Company X (acquired by Company Y in 2022)." You can keep the single-entry structure if the culture and role progression were continuous. But if you actually worked for legally separate entities (e.g., went from a subsidiary to the parent company as a new hire), treat them as separate employers on your resume.
When you have four roles, the section can eat up 15-20 lines. To save space:
This keeps the section readable and focused on growth, not length.
